Every month, the second Tuesday to be exact; Microsoft and many other vendors release important updates for their software. Despite this, there are a large number of unpatched, unsecured, and vulnerable machines that fail to obtain these updates. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to download Windows (and Mac) Updates.
We know, it’s annoying, upsetting or even depressing: you’re always nagged to install updates from Microsoft. It’s alright, it’s not personal. Unfortunately, getting these updates is extremely vital to prevent your computer from becoming compromised — spewing spam, viruses and other illegal activities from your computer.
How To Obtain Windows Updates:
- Close all applications and open Internet Explorer. (The blue “e” on your Desktop.)
- Click the Tools menu, then click Windows Update. Alternatively, just navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/.
- Proceed through and click YES, ACCEPT or CONTINUE as needed. Depending on the updates, you may be required to restart your computer.
- Update your additional software like anti-virus, firewall and anti-spyware software to maximize compatibility.
How To Obtain Mac (Apple) Updates:
- Close all applications.
- Click the Apple menu, then click Software Update.
- When asked, enter your Administrative Password.
- Proceed through and click I AGREE as needed. Depending on the updates, you may be required to restart your computer. (We recommend that you do.)
It’s that easy. It would be a good idea to make it a habit to check Microsoft TechNet to determine at a finer detail what updates are being distributed so you can anticipate the changes.
